NHAI plans to auction 124 Highway Projects worth ₹3.4 lakh crore in FY26

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to bid out 124 highway and expressway projects worth ₹3.4 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26. The total length of road projects to be put up for bids during the year will be approximately 6,376 km. Among the projects, capacity augmentation of the Pampore (Srinagar) to Qazigund section of NH-44 (48 km) will be undertaken through the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model. This will involve the construction of service roads and grade-separated structures to improve traffic flow and road safety.

NHAI executes its highway projects primarily through three models: Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT), Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), and Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC). Under the BOT model, concession periods, including maintenance responsibilities, typically range from 15 to 20 years, while the HAM model usually involves a 15-year concession tenure. This aggressive push for new highway development reflects the government’s ongoing focus on strengthening national infrastructure and enhancing road connectivity across the country.
