MoD to procure six Dornier aircraft for Indian Air Force
Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract for procurement of six Dornier-228 aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at a cost of Rs 667 crore. These aircrafts will be purchased for the Indian Air Force (IAF). These aircrafts will be used by IAF for Route Transport Role, and communication duties. These aircrafts has also been used to train the transport pilots of Indian Air Force.
The current lot of six aircrafts will be bought with an upgraded fuel-efficient engine. These aircrafts will have a five bladed composite propeller. These aircrafts are ideally suited for m semi-prepared/short runways of the North East and island chains of India.
