CBDT enables filing of commonly used ITRs for A.Y. 2024-25

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced the availability of functionalities for filing commonly used Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the Assessment Year 2024-25 (relevant to Financial Year 2023-24). Taxpayers can now file their ITRs, including ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-4, and companies’ ITR-6, through the e-filing portal.

CBDT had earlier notified the ITR forms, starting with ITRs 1 and 4 on December 22nd, 2023, followed by ITR-6 on January 24th, 2024, and ITR-2 on January 31st, 2024.

To assist e-Return Intermediaries (ERIs), the JSON Schema for ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-4, and ITR-6, as well as the Schema of Tax Audit Reports for A.Y. 2024-25, have been made available for download on the e-filing portal.

Taxpayers can now file ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-4, and ITR-6 for A.Y. 2024-2025 on the e-filing portal since 01.04.2024. Notably, approximately 23,000 ITRs for A.Y. 2024-25 have already been filed. The facility to file ITRs 3, 5, and 7 will be available soon.

This move marks the first time in recent years that the Income Tax department has enabled taxpayers to file their Returns on the first day of the new financial year, demonstrating a commitment to simplifying compliance and enhancing taxpayer services.
