ICGEB Marks One Year of BioE3 Policy

New Delhi, September 6, 2025 – The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, celebrated the first anniversary of the BioE3 Policy with a special event titled BioE3@1. The BioE3 Policy links Biotechnology with Economy, Environment, and Employment, and has become a flagship initiative of the Government of India.
The event focused on the theme “Institute–Industry Interaction for Climate Resilient Agriculture and Clean Energy.” It brought together top national research institutes and leading companies to strengthen the lab-to-market journey of innovations.
Institutes such as the National Agri Food Biotechnology Institute (Mohali), National Institute of Plant Genome Research (New Delhi), National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (Hyderabad), Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (Gurugram), and Regional Centre for Biotechnology (Faridabad) collaborated in the programme.
Industry leaders from Balram Chinni Mills, Prasad Seeds, Nuziveedu Seeds, Bioseeds, Mankind Agro, and Insecticides India Ltd. also joined the discussions. Their presence highlighted the growing synergy between science and industry in driving India’s bioeconomy.
Event in a Nutshell
The programme had two sessions. In the first, Directors of the partner institutes presented their research in climate-resilient agriculture and clean energy. They showcased new technologies and solutions with potential for global impact.
In the second session, an industry panel shared strategies to bridge the gap between research labs and commercial markets. Dr Ramesh V Sonti, Director of ICGEB New Delhi, moderated the discussion. Panelists included senior representatives from the participating companies.
An exhibition ran alongside the event. It featured innovations in agri-biotech, sustainable energy, animal health, and pesticide formulation. Industry stakeholders explored practical applications of these technologies and their role in building a stronger bioeconomy.
About the Policy
Approved by the Union Cabinet in 2024, the BioE3 Policy aims to transform India’s bioeconomy while supporting the country’s Net Zero target for 2070. By linking biotechnology to growth, jobs, and sustainability, the policy is shaping a new development model for the nation.
