New Delhi — The upcoming 1-Gigawatt (GW) hyperscale Google Data Centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, is projected to generate a significant ₹10,000 crore in revenue for the state, according to a statement by Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar.

Speaking to the media after Google’s official announcement of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam at the ‘Bharat AI Shakti’ event, Dr Chandrasekhar hailed the project as a “defining milestone in Swarandhra Pradesh’s journey of progress and self-reliance.”

The ambitious project, which marks India’s first gigawatt-scale data centre and Google’s first AI hub in India, involves an investment of approximately $15 billion (USD) over five years (2026-2030).

Major Economic and Employment Impact:

Investment & Revenue: The $15 billion investment is expected to deliver a substantial economic multiplier effect, highlighted by the anticipated ₹10,000 crore revenue generation for Andhra Pradesh.

Job Creation: The facility is set to create an estimated 5,000–6,000 direct jobs and a total of 20,000–30,000 jobs in the state across various sectors.

Infrastructure Boost: The centre will bring essential new manpower, high-grade infrastructure, power, and cooling facilities to Visakhapatnam, solidifying its position as a major Digital Hub.

Dr Chandrasekhar emphasised that this mega-project is a crucial step in accelerating India’s AI-driven transformation. He extended his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lauded the continuous efforts of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh for successfully securing the Google investment.

The event in New Delhi saw the presence of Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, along with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, and Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.
