Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches ₹8,000 crore projects in Uttarakhand
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a major state program in Dehradun. This event marked the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Uttarakhand State Foundation Day. Uttarakhand was formed exactly 25 years ago on November 9, 2000. The Prime Minister visited the Forest Research Institute, where he addressed the gathering. Specifically, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various development projects that exceeded ₹8,000 crore in total value. He also launched a commemorative postal stamp to honor the occasion.
The Prime Minister delivered a massive development thrust to the mountain state. In total, he inaugurated completed projects valued at over ₹930 crore. Additionally, he laid the foundation for future schemes exceeding ₹7,000 crore. These initiatives targeted several crucial sectors across the region. For instance, they included drinking water, energy, and technical education. The projects also focused on irrigation, urban development, sports, and skill enhancement.
The Prime Minister also released financial support directly to farmers. Notably, he transferred ₹62 crore into the bank accounts of more than 28,000 beneficiaries. This important funding fell under the central government’s PM Fasal Bima Yojana.
Uttarakhand Silver Jubilee: Thrust on Development
Several essential projects received formal inauguration during the visit. Firstly, Dehradun secured full water supply coverage under the AMRUT scheme, covering 23 local zones. Pithoragarh district also received a new, vital electrical substation. Moreover, solar power plants began successful operation in many government buildings. The state also opened the new AstroTurf Hockey Ground at Haldwani Stadium in Nainital. Indeed, these completed projects have immediately improved public welfare and essential services for residents.
Foundational Water and Power Schemes
The Prime Minister laid foundation stones for two major hydro-sector projects. The first is the crucial Song Dam Drinking Water Project. This dam will supply 150 million liters of water daily, specifically addressing Dehradun’s long-term drinking water needs. The second project is the important Jamarani Dam Multipurpose Project in Nainital. Importantly, this dam will provide stable drinking water and support vital irrigation for agriculture. Furthermore, it will generate essential electricity for the entire region.
Additionally, he laid foundations for other supporting infrastructure. This included new electrical substations across Uttarakhand. The government also established a Women’s Sports College in Champawat. Finally, a state-of-the-art dairy plant began its development phase in Nainital. These collective projects propelled the Uttarakhand Silver Jubilee agenda forward, significantly strengthening the state’s infrastructure.
