The NAREDCO Mahi Conference highlighted the growing contribution of women across India’s real estate sector and welcomed the allotment of one crore homes to women under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U). The organisation said the milestone reflects the government’s continued focus on women’s empowerment and inclusive housing while also showcasing the expanding role of women in real estate.
According to information shared at the conference, PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 have sanctioned more than 1.25 crore houses. Out of these, one crore homes have been allotted in the name of women or through joint ownership. The initiative has emerged as an important step towards strengthening women’s financial security and social empowerment.
Home ownership creates long-term financial strength
The conference also noted that the 8th Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee meeting under PMAY-U 2.0, held in August 2026, approved more than 2.09 lakh houses. Of these, around 2.03 lakh houses were allotted to women. The development further reinforces the emphasis on increasing women’s participation in home ownership.
NAREDCO Mahi said that owning a home offers benefits that extend beyond housing security. Property ownership gives women access to a valuable financial asset and strengthens their participation in family and financial decision-making. The organisation noted that women are increasingly becoming active participants in the country’s economic growth through ownership of productive assets.

Dr. Ananta Singh Raghuvanshi, Chairperson, NAREDCO Mahi said, “The allotment of one crore homes to women under PMAY is an important step towards strengthening Nari Shakti. Owning a home, either in a woman’s name or through joint ownership, is not just about having a place to live. It also gives her a valuable financial asset that can strengthen her economic security, dignity and participation in important family decisions. At the same time, women are increasingly taking up leadership, entrepreneurial and professional roles across the real estate sector. This growing participation reflects a positive change in the industry.”
The conference observed that the role of women in real estate is evolving rapidly. Women are no longer viewed only as homebuyers or beneficiaries of housing schemes. They are increasingly influencing property purchase decisions, making investments, launching businesses and pursuing professional careers across various segments of the industry.
Their presence is becoming more visible across functions such as sales, marketing, finance, architecture, design, project management and business leadership. NAREDCO Mahi said this growing participation is helping create a more inclusive and balanced real estate ecosystem.
Industry stakeholders at the conference noted that diversity in leadership and decision-making often contributes to stronger organisational performance and broader perspectives. As the sector continues to grow, the participation of women in real estate is expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping future opportunities.
NAREDCO Mahi emphasised the need to create greater opportunities for women across the real estate value chain. The organisation said that encouraging women’s participation as professionals, entrepreneurs and decision-makers will support long-term industry growth while also advancing social and economic development.

Smita Patil, President, NAREDCO Mahi, said, “Women are becoming an increasingly important part of India’s real estate journey. They are not only homeowners and investors, but are also making their mark as professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders. The PMAY milestone is particularly significant because home ownership can give women a stronger financial foundation and greater confidence in making long-term decisions. Going forward, creating more opportunities for women across the real estate value chain will be important for building a more inclusive and progressive industry.”
NAREDCO Mahi believes that the future growth of the sector should recognise women not only as beneficiaries and homebuyers but also as investors, entrepreneurs, professionals and industry leaders. The organisation said greater participation of women in real estate can contribute to a more diverse, resilient and forward-looking industry.
As India’s real estate market enters its next phase of growth, the contribution of women in real estate is expected to become even more significant. NAREDCO Mahi said this transformation will not only strengthen the sector but also contribute meaningfully to India’s broader economic and social development.
