New Delhi: India’s registered manufacturing sector grows significantly as industrial output increased by 7.81 per cent during 2024-25.
According to the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2024-25 released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the sector achieved broad-based growth across value addition, capital investment, and workforce employment.

GVA Expands to ₹26.94 Lakh Crore Driven by Leading Industrial Hubs
Significantly, the sector’s Gross Value Added (GVA) expanded by 9.59 per cent, rising from ₹24.58 lakh crore in 2023-24 to ₹26.94 lakh crore in 2024-25.
Maharashtra recorded the highest share of manufacturing GVA, followed closely by Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. Together, these five states accounted for over 54 per cent of the country’s total manufacturing value addition.
Key Performance Highlights from ASI 2024-25:
Factory Establishment Count: Rose 2.64 per cent to 2.67 lakh (led by Tamil Nadu with 41,221 factories).
Manufacturing Workforce: Expanded 7.19 per cent to 2.10 crore persons.
Total Emoluments Growth: Increased by 12.08 per cent year-on-year.
Invested Capital Growth: Expanded 11.10 per cent, driven by a 10.54 per cent rise in fixed capital.
Net Industry Profit: Climbed 7.73 per cent to ₹11.56 lakh crore.
Five-Year Industrial Growth Trajectory
Crucially, the survey identified basic metals, motor vehicles, chemicals, pharmaceutical products, and food products as the five leading manufacturing industries. Together, these sectors contributed over 45 per cent of total GVA.

Furthermore, fieldwork for the survey occurred between October 2025 and June 2026. Over the five-year period from 2020-21 to 2024-25, manufacturing GVA expanded from ₹16.17 lakh crore to ₹26.94 lakh crore, confirming strong long-term industrial resilience.
