Delhi Airport to launch ‘Air Train’ for seamless terminal connectivity

The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), operator of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), plans to introduce an ‘Air Train’ to enhance passenger connectivity between Terminal 1 and Terminals 2 and 3. The IGIA, India’s busiest airport, currently relies on road transport for passenger movement between these terminals, which are situated apart.

DIAL has issued a tender for an elevated and at-grade Automated People Mover (APM) System, aiming to deliver quick and seamless terminal connections across a 7.7 km route via Aerocity and Cargo City. The APM system is expected to significantly improve passenger convenience, increase the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) score, and reduce the airport’s carbon footprint.

Details regarding the bidding process and eligibility criteria are yet to be disclosed. The newly operational T1 terminal, which opened on August 17, will be among the terminals linked by this upcoming transit system.
