India pursues global dominance in critical minerals production

India is fervently striving to emerge as the foremost and most sustainable global producer of critical minerals, as articulated by Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group entity.
Critical minerals, encompassing cobalt, copper, lithium, nickel, and rare earths, assume a pivotal role in the fabrication of eco-friendly technologies, ranging from wind turbines to electric vehicles.
Addressing the Bank of America Securities Global Metals, Mining, and Steel Conference 2024 in Miami, Hebbar underscored the indispensable contribution of the mining and metals sector in facilitating the world’s attainment of net-zero objectives.
“We regard our responsibility as stewards of India’s natural resources with utmost seriousness, and we are strategically positioned to harness this economic growth,” remarked Hebbar, who also serves as Vedanta’s Director.
Furthermore, Hebbar emphasized the mineral-intensive nature of the global transition toward net-zero goals, affirming the sector’s paramount significance in meeting burgeoning demands.
In alignment with its strategic vision, Hindustan Zinc had previously unveiled plans to venture into strategic mineral exploration through its subsidiary, Hindmetal Exploration Services Pvt Ltd.
India’s concerted efforts to assert dominance in critical minerals production reflect its commitment to sustainable economic development and environmental stewardship on the global stage.
