Ministry of Coal unveils digital mine opening permission module on SWCS Portal

Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat and a digitally empowered economy, the Ministry of Coal has launched the Mine Opening Permission module on the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) portal. By leveraging digital solutions, it enhances transparency, increases operational efficiency, and significantly reduces processing time, supporting a business-friendly environment that promotes faster approvals and investment growth.

This innovation is expected to drive expansion in the coal sector, strengthen India’s energy security, and support the country’s goals of self-reliance and sustainable development. The Single Window Clearance System (SWCS), originally launched on 11th January 2021, provides a unified platform for securing all necessary clearances and approvals required to operationalize coal mines.

The new Mine Opening Permission module, a core feature of SWCS, further simplifies the process by enabling online applications and real-time tracking, eliminating manual paperwork, and cutting processing times while enhancing transparency and efficiency. This streamlined approach aims to foster a more efficient and investment-friendly environment within the coal industry.

The Ministry’s launch of the Mine Opening Permission module demonstrates its commitment to advancing growth and development in the coal sector. Through the integration of technology and automation, this system supports faster decision-making, facilitating the timely opening of coal mines to boost production and enhance India’s energy security.
