UPI–UPU Integration Unveiled at Global Postal Summit in Dubai

Dubai, September 9, 2025: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, launched the UPI–UPU Integration project at the 28th Universal Postal Congress in Dubai. The initiative is developed by India Post, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), and the Universal Postal Union (UPU). It is set to revolutionise cross-border remittances by combining the vast reach of the postal network with the speed and affordability of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
Calling the UPI–UPU Integration “a social compact, not just a technology initiative,” Scindia emphasised how the reliability of postal services combined with UPI’s efficiency will enable families worldwide to transfer money with greater ease, safety, and lower costs.
He highlighted India’s vision for a modern postal ecosystem, built on four key pillars:
Connect through seamless data-driven logistics
Include by delivering affordable financial services
Modernise using AI, DigiPIN, and machine learning
Cooperate through South–South partnerships backed by a UPU-supported technical cell

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative, India Post has emerged as a symbol of inclusion and scale. Scindia noted that with Aadhaar, Jan Dhan, and India Post Payments Bank, over 560 million bank accounts have been opened—most in women’s names. In 2024, India Post delivered over 900 million letters and parcels. It showcase India Post’s reach and relevance.
In a major announcement, the Minister committed USD 10 million during this cycle to foster innovation in technology, e-commerce, and digital payments within the global postal sector. He reiterated India’s readiness to contribute resources, expertise, and collaboration under the guiding principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.
He also confirmed India’s candidature for the Council of Administration and the Postal Operations Council of the UPU. He underlined the country’s commitment to building a connected, inclusive, and resilient future for the global postal community.
Concluding his address, Shri Scindia said, “India comes to you not with proposals, but with partnership. We believe in resilience, interoperability, and trust to ensure that global commerce and connectivity remain seamless.”
