Himachal Pradesh eyes Hydropower Tourism to boost local employment: CM Sukhu
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Tuesday that the state government is exploring hydropower tourism as a means to generate self-employment and job opportunities for the local youth. The initiative aims to harness the state’s rich hydropower potential while promoting eco-tourism.
The Chief Minister stated that a policy would soon be formulated to guide this initiative, with the Department of Energy tasked with providing training to power project developers. Speaking during a review meeting on the progress of various energy department projects, he emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding green energy production in the state.
Push for Hydropower Expansion
Highlighting the need to expedite ongoing hydropower projects, CM Sukhu directed officials to re-advertise stalled projects to maximize the state’s hydropower generation potential. He urged Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) to immediately begin construction on the Devi Kothi and Hail Power Projects.
Key Initiatives Underway

He instructed officials to pursue these matters rigorously to safeguard the state’s interests. Additionally, he called for accelerated progress on pump storage projects as part of the state’s renewable energy agenda.
