BHIWADI. Rajasthan entered India’s semiconductor ecosystem today with the inauguration of the state’s first chip packaging facility. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated the Rajasthan semiconductor plant owned by Sahasra Semiconductors Pvt. Ltd. He also launched a new Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) at Salarpur, Khushkhera in Bhiwadi. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Minister Bhupender Yadav attended the historic event. Vaishnaw stated that this facility supports India’s goal to become a global hub for electronics. He noted that national electronics production has reached nearly ₹13 lakh crore over twelve years. Mobile phones now stand as India’s top export commodity according to the Minister. The virtual ceremony followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel usage.
Technical Capabilities and Export Reach
The new Rajasthan semiconductor plant represents India’s first SME-led unit to begin commercial chip production. Developed under the SPECS scheme, the facility involved an investment exceeding ₹150 crore. The plant covers 57,000 square feet and features advanced Class 10K and 100K cleanrooms. It packages memory chips for Micro SD cards, flash storage, LED driver ICs, and eSIMs. The unit currently produces 60 million semiconductor units annually with plans for 400–600 million units. Over 60 per cent of its production already reaches markets like the US, Germany, and China. Sahasra also plans to expand into semiconductor research and development for LED driver chips. This unit marks a significant milestone for the Rajasthan semiconductor plant and high-tech manufacturing.
Growth of the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster
Alongside the chip unit, the ELCINA cluster has emerged as a major regional electronics hub. The 50.3-acre cluster cost ₹46.09 crore and received ₹20.24 crore in central government support. Twenty companies have planned investments of over ₹1,200 crore in the cluster for EV parts and RFID. Eleven companies are currently operational with cumulative investments exceeding ₹900 crore in the region. This hub has already generated employment for more than 2,700 people in the Bhiwadi area. Operating firms include Aisan Fiem Industries, E-Pack Durable, and the Electronics Sector Skill Council of India. The development of this cluster further strengthens the foundation for the Rajasthan semiconductor plant.
Policy Framework and Regional Transformation
Chief Minister Sharma highlighted that the Rajasthan Semiconductor Policy 2026 will transform the Delhi-NCR region. This policy aims to establish the state as a premier destination for global electronics manufacturers. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav noted that Bhiwadi is evolving from an automobile centre to an electronics hub. The state government remains committed to supporting skill development in semiconductor packaging and high-tech manufacturing. These strategic initiatives ensure that the Rajasthan semiconductor plant contributes to the national Digital India vision. The cluster model provides a comprehensive ecosystem for semiconductor packaging and industrial electronics. This transition signals a new era for industrial growth in northern India.
