Ambuja Cements’ CSR Initiatives in Farakka yield positive social returns, reveals SROI Study

Ambuja Cements, a leading cement and building material company of the Adani Group, has unveiled the results of a recent Social Return on Investment (SROI) study, showcasing the significant impact of its CSR initiatives in Farakka, West Bengal. Conducted by the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development (CESD) in New Delhi, the study analyzed the outcomes of interventions implemented between 2019 and 2022.

The agro-based livelihood program emerged as the highest contributor to the SROI, demonstrating its effectiveness in increasing agriculture income, improving crop productivity, and developing irrigation channels. The success of the program can be attributed to effective water resource management, leading to increased groundwater availability and improved irrigation facilities.

Ambuja also collaborated with Village Health Functionaries (Sakhis) to improve healthcare in Farakka, resulting in enhanced Maternal Child Health indicators, reduced Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), and increased institutional delivery rates.

Additionally, the initiatives positively impacted the accessibility of healthcare services for truckers, encompassing TB testing, HIV/AIDS awareness, and improved awareness of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Ajay Kapur, CEO of Cement Business, emphasized Ambuja’s commitment to addressing the area’s challenges, such as poor health conditions and limited livelihood opportunities, through need-based interventions in community health, agriculture, allied agriculture, and skill training.
