Border Roads Organisation kick-starts 5 major road projects in Ladakh

After an MoU signed between boarder road organization and Ladakh administration, five major road projects in Ladakh were inaugurated by Governor of Ladakh, Radha Krishna Mathur through a ground breaking ceremony attended by MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and the Chief Executive Councillor, Leh, TashiGyalson, besides Director General Border Roads Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar apart from the villagers from the nearby locations.
The Ladakh Administration has assigned projects of construction and the improvement of roads and tunnels to BRO for the improving connectivity in the hilly region. Among these five projects included the preparation of greenfield alignment, tunneling works and upgradation of single lane roads to double-lane and tunnelling works. Apart from the new road projects the upgradation of single lane roads including 78 Km road Khalse to Batallik, 50 Km road Kargil to Dumgil were commenced.
The LG appreciated the work carried out by the BRO and dedicated the projects to the people of Ladakh. These road infrastructure projects by BRO will also support the Army in fulfilling its security requirements and give impetus to the tourism for socio economic development.
Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry DG-BRO said BRO is working on providing roadside amenities along BRO roads for the comfort of the tourists and once completed, these projects will turn out to play a considerable role in promoting tourism and enhancing operational preparedness of our forces in the region. These projects will also provide major employment opportunities to the locals with simultaneously contributing towards the socio-economic aspirations of the Ladakh region.
