Bureau of Indian Standards collaborates with 35 institutions to advance standardization and conformity assessment

In an effort to promote standardization and conformity assessment activities, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India, has signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with 35 prestigious institutions from various states across the country. The institutions include prominent NITs, Government, and Private Engineering colleges.

The MoU facilitates the active involvement of partner institutions in BIS’s standardization activities both at the national and international level. It offers infrastructure support for relevant R&D projects, joint organization of events on Standardization and Conformity Assessment, exchange of publications, introduction of standardization curricula in academics, exploration of a Centre of Excellence for Standardization, testing, and Conformity Assessment, and sharing of laboratory facilities.

Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General of BIS, expressed his confidence that these partnerships with esteemed academic institutions will greatly enhance the formulation of standards. Shri Chandan Bahl, Deputy Director General of BIS, presented a detailed outline of the program’s framework and future plans, emphasizing the potential benefits of the collaboration.

BIS, a statutory body operating under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, aims to support the industry through various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts, and Laboratory Services, with a focus on consumer protection.
