Cabinet Approves CITIIS 2.0: Advancing Sustainable Urban Development in India

The Union Cabinet has given its go ahead on the program: “City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain 2.0 (CITIIS 2.0)” which is a four-year initiative from 2023 to 2027. It’s developed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) jointly with the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Union (EU), the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) and Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) of Germany.
CITIIS 2.0 aims to support selected projects focusing on circular economy and integrated waste management at the city level, climate-oriented reform actions at the state level, and institutional strengthening and knowledge dissemination at the national level. The program will receive Rs. 1760 crore loan that’s equals Rs.1760 EUR 200 million. Among this loan amount it will receive EUR 100 million each from KfW and AFD. EU will also provide Rs.106 crore (EUR 12 million)as technical assistance grant to this program.
CITIIS 2.0 is set to enhance the existing initiatives led by the Government of India. It will work in harmony with the National Mission on Sustainable Habitat, the Smart Cities Mission AMRUT 2.0, and the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, all of which are ongoing national programs. It will also fulfil its commitments at the Conference of the Parties (COP 26).
