CSIR-IIM holds two-day start-up conclave at Udhampur

A two-day young start-up expo held in Udhampur was organised by CSIR-IIIM with an aim to provide an opportunity of industries and the entrepreneurs to explore new avenues. Dr. Jitendra Singh,  Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology inaugurated the two-day ‘Young Start-up Expo’ at Udhampur, located in J&K.

in Jammu and Kashmir. The event, organized by CSIR-IIIM, aims to provide an opportunity for industry and entrepreneurs in the region to explore new avenues. Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the widespread reach of the start-up movement promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extending its impact to every part of India, including smaller towns.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the topmost priority given to Jammu and Kashmir by PM Narendra Modi, leading to its commendable development, placing it on par with other developed states and Union Territories in India. He also celebrated India’s achievements under the Modi government, with examples such as India’s attainment of the G20 Presidency in 2023 and the UN’s recognition of the year as the International Year of Millets, which reflects the growing stature of India on the global stage.

Dr. Jitendra Singh proudly stated that start-ups in India have witnessed tremendous growth, expanding 300-fold in the last nine years. The number of start-ups has surged from around 350 before 2014 to over 90,000, including more than 100 unicorns. He attributed this success to the abundant talent, capability, innovation, and creativity present in India’s youth, which flourished with the favorable environment and support provided by PM Modi’s leadership.

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the government’s focus on not only creating employment but also fostering entrepreneurship over the past nine years. He credited PM Modi’s mantra of ‘StartUp India, StandUp India’ for creating millions of job opportunities, inspiring the youth to break free from the traditional mindset of seeking government jobs and venture into niche sectors, thereby generating numerous employment prospects.

Director of CSIR-IIIM Jammu, Dr. Zabeer Ahmad, described the ‘Start-up Conclave’ as a historic event for Udhampur district. He encouraged the residents of Udhampur and nearby districts to attend the conclave to gain knowledge and receive guidance on the benefits of start-ups, which serve as engines of economic growth.
