Government to set up export promotion council to boost AYUSH exports

Ministry of AYUSH and Ministry of Commerce and Industry are joining hands to set up an Export Promotion Council to augment AYUSH exports. In a joint review of Ayush trade and industry, Shripad Naik, Minister of State for Ayush together with Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry have taken this decision.
In the review meeting held through video conference, it was also decided to boost AYUSH exports. The entire AYUSH sector will have to work together so that price and quality competitiveness could be achieved. The meeting attended by over fifty trade leaders from AYUSH sector also witnessed more than 2000 stakeholders attending the meeting through live streaming.
The meeting was initiated by Secretary AYUSH who elaborated on the actions taken according to the recommendations of the earlier meeting through a presentation. He further briefed on various initiatives taken by the AYUSH Ministry to mitigate the COVID-19 situation. He further spoke on various emerging opportunities to promote AYUSH industry and he also listed a few hurdles in its way that require immediate attention.
Shripad Naik opined in the meeting that commerce and trade in AYUSH sector are required to upscale to meet the growing demand and to serve the people. He also mentioned about various steps initiated by the ministry currently to add protection to the public from Coronavirus. He informed that the National Clinical Management Protocols and AYUSH immunity protocols for Covid-19 were timely interventions that provided relief to the maximum population.
Piyush Goyal commended the frontline role of AYUSH sector in the fight against COVID-19. He also advised industry leaders to work on pricing and quality of their products. Supporting the concept of AYUSH Export Promotion Council, he said continued support of Commerce Ministry will be made available to AYUSH Sector. He assured that AYUSH will be placed in “Brand India” activities. The meeting provided the following action points:
1. Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of AYUSH will work together to establish an AYUSH Export Promotion Council (AEPC) which can be housed at AYUSH Ministry.
2. HS code standardization to be expedited.
3. Ministry of AYUSH will along with the Bureau of Indian standards develop international standards for products and services of AYUSH.
4. AYUSH will work to ensure the quality and standards of the products of AYUSH and to make them price-competitive.
5. AYUSH will appear in activities of Brand India.
