Government launches plans to tackle air pollution

With aim to achieve to achieve considerable reduction of up to 20% to 30% in the concentration of Particulate Matter by the year 2024 keeping the year 2017 as base, a National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) has been launched by the government as a time-bound, long-term and national level strategy to tackle air pollution issues in India.

Under the policy, over 122 non-attainment cities have been identified as it’ss preparing city specific action plans which include measures of strengthening monitoring network, increasing awareness among public as well as reducing industrial and vehicular emissions. The action plans are being monitored by State and Central level committees.

State Pollution Control Boards are monitoring air quality and some of the smart cities have been established as integrated command and control centres connected to air quality monitors.
