Govt launches Pilot Internship Scheme for 1 crore youth over 5 years

The Government has rolled out a pilot internship scheme aimed at providing one crore internships over five years, with annual financial assistance of ₹66,000 for youth aged 21-24. The scheme, starting on December 2, 2024, is estimated to cost ₹800 crore and aims to cover 1.25 lakh candidates in FY 2024-25.

Launched in the Union Budget 2024, the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme in Top Companies will offer monthly financial aid of ₹5,000 and a one-time grant of ₹6,000. Insurance coverage will also be provided through government schemes like PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana.

The program will be facilitated through the online portal ‘www.pminternship.mca.gov.in’, and registration will be open from October 12-25, with offers extended by companies between October 27 and November 7. Top companies, based on their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) spending, will participate voluntarily, with 1,077 offers already made by Alembic, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Max Life Insurance.
