Health minister inaugurates plasma donation campaign organised by Delhi Police at AIIMS

Over twenty six Delhi Police personnel, who had recovered after defeating COVID-19 disease, voluntarily donated their plasma at a plasma donation campaign organised by Delhi Police at AIIMS Delhi. The campaign was inaugurated by the Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan who was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Saluting the efforts of Delhi Police, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, “These donations will have a long-lasting impact on other countrymen who will get inspired to donate their plasma.” Plasma therapy has emerged as a possible treatment of COVID-19 disease in the absence of any vaccine against COVID-19.  Particularly in India satisfactory results have been obtained through clinical trials held at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital recently.

A recovered COVID- patient develops protective antibodies to coronavirus and these antibodies can provide immunity to those COVID-19 patients who are not responding to the conventional treatment. The patients who have recovered from COVID-19 disease and have completed 28 days can donate their blood plasma.
