In-store promotion show for promoting Manipuri pineapples in international markets organised in Dubai

APEDA, Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority organized an export promotion program in Dubai. The initiative was aimed at showcasing Manipur’s pineapples in international markets.

The ‘in-store promotion show’ was organized at the Lulu hyper market of Dubai in association with Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) of Government of Manipur. The event was supported by Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA). MOMA supported in sourcing of organic certified Kwe variety of pineapples directly from the farmers of Manipur.

These pineapples are fibre-rich sweetener from North Eastern Region (NER). The consumers were also offered Manipur pineapple to taste. Manipur ranks sixth in pineapple production. It produced 134.82 metric tonne (MT) of pineapple in 2020-21. It has a share of 7.46% in total pineapple production in India. Qatar, UAE, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, USA, Belgium, Bahrain, Oman and Iran are the top ten Indian pineapples importing countries.

Dr. M. Angamuthu, chairman, APEDA said that focusing on promoting pineapple sourced from farmers in the Gulf countries will help farmers in better price realization of their produce.
