India makes considerable progress in strengthening local manufacturing
In accordance with ‘Make in India’ initiative, the country has ramped up its efforts towards strengthening local manufacturing while facilitating global investments at the same time. Especially the defence sector is a shining example of this effort.
The Ministry of Defence has prepared a list of 19509 defence items which have been indigenized. These items were earlier imported. Recently the ministry has launched a portal “SRIJAN” and all these items have been uploaded there to promote indigenization by the industry.
The Indian industry has so far shown interest for indigenisation of 4006 defence items. The initiative is undertaken by Technology Development Board, a statutory body under Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. It supports Ghaziabad Precision Products Private Limited, (GPP), Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh in this.
