India’s coal production surges by 14.5% in June YoY
India’s coal production in June 2024 recorded a significant year-on-year increase of 14.5%, reaching 84.63 million tonnes (MT), up from 73.92 MT in June 2023. During the same period, Coal India Limited (CIL) achieved a coal production of 63.10 MT, marking an 8.87% growth from 57.96 MT in the previous year. Coal production from captive and commercial mines saw an impressive rise of 55.49% in June 2024, standing at 16.03 MT compared to 10.31 MT in the previous year.
India’s coal dispatches for June 2024 totaled 85.76 MT, reflecting a 10.15% increase from 77.86 MT in June 2023. CIL dispatched 64.10 MT of coal in June 2024, showing a 5.41% growth from 60.81 MT in the previous year. Dispatches from captive and other mines rose to 16.26 MT, a 43.84% increase from 11.30 MT in the previous year.
As of June 30, 2024, the coal stock held by coal companies surged to 95.02 MT, indicating an annual growth rate of 41.68%, underscoring the coal sector’s robust performance and efficiency. Concurrently, coal stocks at Thermal Power Plants (TPP) increased to 46.70 MT, marking a 30.15% annual growth. The Ministry of Coal noted that all figures are provisional.
