Mega Food Park inaugurated at Kapurthala, Punjab

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar virtually inaugurated a 55-acre Mega Food Park located at Phagwara in Kapurthala district of Punjab. Christened as Sukhjit Mega Food Park, itโ€™s built at the cost of Rs 107.83 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, he said Punjab and Haryana have played a significant role in agriculture development in India and that due to the efforts of the farmers of these states, India has become food surplus and self-reliant in food grains. He added that it is required for the food processing sector to be focussed upon the farmers getting fair prices.
He said the government is working for the welfare of the farmers and they are also given subsidies. He informed the government has increased the MSP of crops and it has also started a scheme for the creation of 10000 new FPOs, besides a 10,000 crore fund has also been launched under Aatmanirbhar Bharat aimed at strengthening the food processing sector.
The Minister emphasised on the requirement of research as it plays a huge role in the agriculture sector. Sukhjit Mega Food Park is expected to benefit over 25000 farmers and itโ€™s likely to generate employment for over 5000 people. The food park encompasses Warehouses for raw materials and finished goods, cold storage, deep freezer, IQF, and various other food processing facilities.
