Mega power infrastructure upgrade approved for Gurugram and Faridabad

The Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, has greenlit projects worth ₹3,600 crore aimed at the modernization and upgradation of power distribution infrastructure in the rapidly expanding districts of Gurugram and Faridabad.

These projects, approved during an Inter-ministerial Monitoring Committee meeting, are part of the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme. The initiative is designed to meet the growing electricity demand in these regions, which has been increasing at an annual rate of 8-10%.

The plan includes the installation of 20 new Gas Insulated Substations (12 in Faridabad and 8 in Gurugram), 3,500 km of underground cabling, and the commissioning of around 5,000 new distribution transformers and compact substations.

In addition to modernizing the infrastructure, the project will also introduce network automation, enhancing the ability to detect and resolve faults swiftly, thereby significantly improving the reliability and quality of power supply in both districts. The upgrades will not only cater to the current demand but will also prepare these areas for future growth.

The underground cabling will improve citizen safety and enhance the aesthetics, particularly in densely populated areas. Consumers in Manesar, Badshahpur, Old Faridabad, NIT, Ballabhgarh, and Greater Faridabad stand to benefit from these comprehensive upgrades, marking a significant leap towards a more robust and resilient power distribution network in these key urban centers.
