The coal sector achieves impressive growth in production

In September 2023, the country’s coal output achieved a remarkable milestone with the production of 67.21 million tonnes (MT) of coal, surpassing last year’s figure of 58.04 MT for the same month. This represents a significant increase of 15.81%. Coal India Limited (CIL) contributed to this growth by producing 51.44 MT in September 2023, a 12.63% increase compared to September 2022 when it produced 45.67 MT.

According a statement of the Ministry of Coal, the cumulative coal production up to September 2023 has reached 428.25 MT for FY’23-24, reflecting a 12.06% growth compared to the 382.16 MT produced during the same period in FY’22-23. Moreover, coal dispatch also witnessed substantial growth in September 2023, reaching an impressive 70.33 MT, a notable improvement compared to the 61.10 MT recorded in September 2022, with a growth rate of 15.12%. The CIL demonstrated exceptional performance in dispatch, achieving 55.06 MT in September 2023, up from 48.91 MT in September 2022, representing a growth of 12.57%.

The cumulative coal dispatch up to September 2023 has risen to 462.32 MT for FY’ 23-24, a 10.96% increase compared to the corresponding period in FY’ 22-23. The coal sector has experienced unprecedented growth, with production, dispatch, and stock levels reaching new heights. This exceptional progress is attributed to the dedicated efforts of Coal PSUs, which have played a pivotal role in driving this remarkable achievement. It underscores the efficiency of the coal supply chain, ensuring the seamless distribution of coal nationwide.
