Ministry of Finance claims over 52 Crore PM Jan-Dhan accounts opened under PMJDY

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), launched in August 2014, has opened 52.81 crore accounts with a total deposit balance of Rs. 2,30,792 crore as of 19.07.2024. Of these accounts, 29.37 crore (55.6%) belong to women, and 35.15 crore (66.6%) are in rural and semi-urban areas. This initiative, aimed at financial inclusion, focuses on providing banking services to unbanked households, securing the unsecured, funding the unfunded, and serving underserved regions.

Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, in a written reply to Lok Sabha, highlighted the mission’s success in promoting financial inclusion across India.

Key Social Security and Credit Schemes:

– Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY): 20.48 crore enrolments for life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakh.
– Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY): 45.08 crore enrolments for accidental cover of Rs. 2 lakh (death or permanent total disability) and Rs. 1 lakh (permanent partial disability).
– Atal Pension Yojana (APY): 6.71 crore enrolments for monthly pension benefits.

Credit-Linked Schemes to Promote Entrepreneurship:

– Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY): 48.92 crore loans totaling Rs. 29.93 lakh crore for micro/small business units.
– Stand-Up India Scheme (SUPI): 2.36 lakh loans amounting to Rs. 53,609 crore for SC/ST and women entrepreneurs.
– PM Vishwakarma Scheme: Support for traditional artists and craftspeople through skill training, credit, and market linkage.
– Prime Minister Street Vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi): Launched to support street vendors affected by the COVID-19 lockdown, providing loans and promoting holistic economic development.
