Mission Amrit Sarovar achieves target of 50,000 Water Conservation Sites ahead of schedule

Mission Amrit Sarovar, launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim to conserve water for the future, has achieved a remarkable milestone of completing over 50,000 Amrit Sarovar ahead of schedule. The Ministry of Rural Development, as the nodal ministry, worked in collaboration with various ministries and achieved the target of building 50,000 Amrit Sarovar by August 15, 2023, much before the deadline, thanks to the whole-of-government approach and people’s participation.

The mission has become a mass movement, with over 105,243 sites identified as Amrit Sarovar, out of which work has already begun at 72,297 sites. The mission also aims to make the Amrit Sarovar a center of community activities, with a user group formed for each Sarovar to ensure community ownership in their maintenance and long-term conservation. The mission has equally seen the participation of various dignitaries, including 1784 freedom fighters, 684 families of martyrs, 448 families of freedom fighters, 18,173 senior members of Panchayats, and 56 Padma awardees.
