MNRE launches second tranche of Rs 13,050 Crore Green Hydrogen Incentive Scheme

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has unveiled the guidelines for the second tranche of its Green Hydrogen incentive scheme, committing a substantial Rs 13,050 crore towards fostering sustainable energy solutions. Named the “Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme – Component II: Incentive Scheme for Green Hydrogen Production (under Mode 1)- Tranche-II,” these guidelines were officially announced on July 3, 2024.

SECI, the Solar Energy Corporation of India, has been entrusted as the implementing agency for this tranche under Mode-1 of Component-II of the Green Hydrogen incentive scheme. According to MNRE’s statement, SECI will soon initiate the Request for Selection (RfS) process to kickstart the ambitious project.

The second tranche aims to establish a production capacity of 450,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of Green Hydrogen. Of this, 40,000 TPA capacity will be specifically allocated for biomass-based pathways (Bucket-II), while the remainder will cater to technology-agnostic pathways (Bucket-I).

This initiative is part of the government’s broader Green Hydrogen mission, which also includes an increased allocation of Green Ammonia for the fertiliser sector. These measures underscore India’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development in the energy sector.
