NTPC unveils 25 MW largest Floating Solar Power project in the country

The National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC), India’s largest power conglomerate, has commissioned 25MW floating solar PV project on the reservoir of its Simhadri thermal station situated at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The largest floating solar PV project it’s set up under the Flexibilisation Scheme notified by the Government of India in the year 2018. Inaugurated by Sanjay Madan, RED (WR2 & SR), this Solar PV project is spread over 75 acres in an RW reservoir.
The project is capable of generating electricity from more than 1 lakh solar PV modules and it would light up around 7,000 households, besides saving 1,364 million litres of water per year which in turn would meet 6,700 households’ yearly water requirements. A hydrogen-based micro-grid system is also under planning by NTPC which it may set up at Simhadri on a pilot basis.
