One crore face masks manufactured under Deen Dayal Yojana

In the fight against Coronavirus outbreak, there has been a visible shortage of face masks, the most important protective gear. However, self-help groups (SHGs) across the country have come forward to fulfil this demand-supply gap. Various SHGs under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) flagship scheme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs have prepared more than one crore face masks and this shows their relentless efforts and united resolve to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mission has also turned out to be an effort towards women empowerment besides being instrumental in safeguarding lives in true sense. A strong face of women entrepreneurs Shubhangi Chandrakant Dhaygude, President, Samrudhhi Area Level Federation (ALF) boasts a distinct smile on her face while she prepares face masks.

She informed there are 45 more women involved in making masks and they have made over 50000 masks.  Meenu Jha, member of Savarni  SHG in Kota, Rajasthan said, “all of us have unique capability of contributing in this fight against the dreaded virus.” Gamocha has also become a symbol of safety and health, as these Corona warriors are making masks using traditional cloth.
