Power Project on Satluj river gets Rs 1810 crore investment proposal

The Union Cabinet Committee has approved  Rs 1810.56 crore investment for Luhri Stage-I hydro electric project on Satluj river in Shimla and Kullu of Himachal Pradesh. Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited is implementing this project which will generate 758.20 million units of electricity on yearly basis.

As per the estimates, the construction of this project will provide employment to over 2000 persons, hence it will also contribute to the socio-economic development of Himachal Pradesh. Further, the state will be benefitted with free power worth Rs 1140 crore during the entire Luhri Stage-I Hydro Electric Project lifecycle that is of 40 years.  The affected families from this project will be provided with 100 units free electricity every month for ten years.

The MoU for this project was signed during Rising Himachal, Global Investor Meet inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi last year. Subsequently, the Government of India is also providing grants of Rs. 66.19 crore for infrastructure development.
