President Droupadi Murmu has invited Romanian companies to become active partners in India’s development journey under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. She said India’s rapid economic transformation offers significant opportunities for global investment, technology collaboration and innovation.
The President addressed the India-Romania Business Forum in Bucharest during her State Visit to Romania. Romanian President Nicușor Dan, government ministers, business leaders and industry representatives attended the forum.
India-Romania partnership gains fresh momentum
President Murmu said the India-Romania partnership can expand significantly in the changing global economy. She described Romania as an important strategic partner for India. She highlighted Romania’s skilled workforce, advanced industrial base and strong integration with the European Union.
She said these strengths make Romania an attractive destination for Indian investment. She also described Romania as a gateway to the wider European market. The President noted the presence of a large Indian business delegation. She said their participation reflected growing confidence in Romania’s economic opportunities.
India-EU agreement to create new opportunities
President Murmu highlighted the recently concluded India-European Union Free Trade Agreement. She described it as one of the world’s largest economic partnerships
The agreement covers nearly two billion people. It represents an economic size of almost USD 25 trillion. She said early implementation will strengthen investment flows and improve value chain integration.
The agreement will also create fresh opportunities for MSMEs, startups and innovators.She added that India and the European Union continue negotiating an Investment Protection Agreement.
Both sides are also discussing a Geographical Indications Agreement. These initiatives are expected to strengthen future economic engagement.
India showcases economic transformation
President Murmu said India remains one of the fastest-growing major economies.
She credited this growth to macroeconomic stability, entrepreneurship and continuous reforms.
She said the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision offers global investors enormous opportunities.
The government continues improving the ease of doing business.
It has introduced tax reforms and Production Linked Incentive schemes.
These initiatives aim to create a transparent and investor-friendly business environment.
The India-Romania partnership can benefit from these reforms through stronger industrial collaboration.
Wide scope for sectoral cooperation
The President identified several sectors with strong cooperation potential.
She said both countries can work together on renewable energy and energy security.
India has developed significant capabilities in solar power, green hydrogen and sustainable biofuels.
Romania brings expertise in nuclear energy, hydropower and offshore wind.
She also identified chemicals and fertilisers as promising sectors.
Both countries can explore joint investments and strengthen supply chains.
The President highlighted opportunities in transportation and logistics.
She encouraged cooperation in ports, highways, railways and multimodal infrastructure.
She also invited Romanian companies to collaborate in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture and food processing.
India’s Digital Public Infrastructure and startup ecosystem can complement Romania’s expertise in software engineering, cybersecurity and advanced technologies.
Strategic ties extend beyond trade
President Murmu said strategic cooperation continues expanding beyond commerce.
She highlighted the role of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council.
The platform supports cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, telecommunications and clean energy.
She also referred to the recently concluded India-EU Security and Defence Partnership.
The initiative will strengthen defence industry collaboration.
India’s growing defence manufacturing sector offers opportunities for joint production, technology partnerships and maintenance services.
The India-Romania partnership can also expand through defence research and innovation.
Three agreements signed during the visit
President Murmu also met Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan in Bucharest. Both leaders discussed trade, investment, clean energy and emerging technologies. The President also held delegation-level talks with President Nicușor Dan.
The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations.They exchanged views on regional and global developments. Three Memorandums of Understanding were signed during the visit.
The agreements cover science and technology, sports and the establishment of a Chair of Indian Studies at the University of Bucharest. President Murmu expressed confidence that businesses from both countries would transform these opportunities into long-term commercial partnerships.
She said stronger cooperation can build resilient supply chains, generate employment, promote innovation and deliver sustainable prosperity for both nations.
