New Delhi: Delhi has secured the top rank among States and Union Territories in electric vehicle adoption, according to the India Electric Mobility Index 2025 (IEMI). Government think tank NITI Aayog launched the second edition of the index in New Delhi. Following Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chandigarh, and Goa achieved the highest overall performance scores in sub-national e-mobility adoption.

Strategic Imperative for Viksit Bharat 2047
Releasing the report, NITI Aayog Member Rajiv Gauba emphasized that transitioning to clean transport represents an economic, environmental, and strategic necessity for India’s Viksit Bharat by 2047 vision.
Furthermore, Gauba noted that electric car sales will account for roughly 40 per cent of all new global car sales by 2040. He affirmed that India has constructed one of the world’s most aggressive and targeted sub-national policy frameworks to accelerate this shift.
