Assam Realizing PM Modi’s Vision of Transformation through Transportation with India’s First Multimodal Park, Says Sonowal

Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, recently inspected the progress of India’s first International Multimodal Logistics Park situated in Jogighopa, Assam. The Minister announced that the jetty at the park is expected to be completed within this year, which will add to the direct connectivity provided by the park via waterways, road, rail, and air. The cost of constructing the park is Rs 693.97 crore.

Shonowal appreciated the pace of work and mentioned that the road and railway connectivity to the park are also expected to be completed by the end of this year. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Transformation through Transportation” for enabling Northeast India to revamp its transportation network, and expressed his belief that the park will unlock significant potential for the region and its neighboring countries such as Bhutan and Bangladesh.

The park is being developed as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana and covers 317 acres of land along the Brahmaputra River. The development will involve creating a 4-lane road between Jogighopa and Guwahati, a 3-km rail line connecting Jogighopa station to the MMLP, and upgrading the road to Rupsi airport to 4 lanes.
