Five years of PMAY-Gramin witness completion of 1.63 crore houses

Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) has completed five years and to celebrate this achievement the states and UTs organised various activities which included Griha Pravesh, Bhoomi Pujan and the visit of the beneficiaries to the houses constructed for demonstration. Sensitisation of beneficiaries about PMAY-G was also done to mark the occasion. The government of India has rolled out rural housing scheme to achieve the objective of providing housing for all by 2022. PMAY-G was precisely launched on November 20, 2016.

The scheme has been effective from April 1, 2016. Under this program 2.95 crore PMAY-G houses are targeted to be completed by 2022. PMAY-G focusses on providing houses to the beneficiaries eligible under the scheme and it also fulfills the basic needs of the households jointly with various other schemes of the government. These beneficiaries are also entitled for unskilled labour under MGNREGS. Moreover, assistance will be provided for piped drinking water, LPG and electricity connection as well as for toilet construction to them.

An exercise For the identification of households has been carried out especially to find out the beneficiaries eligible for assistance under PMAY-G but who do not have their inclusion in the list of eligible beneficiaries. Ministry of Rural Development has created an additional list of eligible households. It was done through Mobile Application “Awaas+” and the states/UTs have been involved in this under the direction of the Ministry of Rural Development.

A survey for this was already completed by March 7, 2019 and the Awaas+ survey captured 3.57 crore households among which the total number of eligible households stood at 2.76 crore household. The program is monitored and implemented through e-governance solutions Awaas APP and AwaasSoft. The software has been added with new modules to maintain transparency and making it accessible. Some of these modules include Landless Module, E-Ticketing System, Adhaar Based Payment System –ABPS, besides, a module for understanding the PMAYG features. An e-learning platform iGOT is also available, which is intended for capacity building of the stakeholders of PMAY-G.
