Gadkari stresses on improving MSMEs’ presence in aspirational districts

Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said that the contribution of the MSME industry to the country’s GDP needs to be enhanced and there is an urgent need to look towards improving their presence in the 115 identified aspirational districts. He said these can uplift the employment scene if focussed attention is drawn towards them. He was speaking at the India@75 Summit: Mission 2022 convened by the Confederation of Indian Industries  (CII).

He informed that the MSME umbrella has been expanded and industry with investment value up to Rs 50 crore and turnover up to Rs 250 crore has been covered in the new definition of MSME. Gadkari asked CII to draft a proposal for insurance of roads which will remove the requirement of Bank Guarantee (BG).

He elaborated on how the road scenario was changing in the country which would further improve with proposed 22 new green expressway projects. Gadkari said by upgrading technology, the country can look for new export avenues in the MSME sector and that it will help grow a large number of ancillary units.
