Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan provides livelihood opportunities to workers

Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan (GKRA) launched by the Union Government is being instrumental in tackling livelihood challenges that have emerged due to the coronavirus pandemic. GKRA is aimed at providing earning opportunities through public works at the local level to the returnee migrants apart from the affected rural citizens. The time-bound campaign of over 125 days will involve focussed implementation of it in six states including Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajashthan. The campaign will benefit returnee migrants of 116 districts spread across these states.

The Abhiyan also involves Jal Jeevan Mission which aims to provide tap water connection to every rural household. To meet this purpose, it also offers opportunity to engage migrant returnees in the works related to the drinking water supply. Some states have even been advised to augmenting the existing piped water supply schemes to achieve ‘Har Ghar Jal Gaon’ which means 100 percent functional household tap water connection in villages.  The works include retrofitting of the existing piped water supply systems.
