Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has informed that road projects worth Rs 1250 crore have been approved for Goa by the Road Transport and Highways Ministry (MoRTH) and this include road development work in four new phases in the state. Since 2014, the state has already witnessed Rs 25,000 crore worth development projects under Bharatmala and Sagarmala projects.

In Goa, 24 hectares of land has been acquired in Rs 270 crore for six and a half km long road between Navelim to Cuncolim apart from 8-km long road from Cancona outer bypass road to Polem to be constructed at a cost of Rs 200 crore. Moreover, Rs 575 crore has been outlaid for four laning of the Ponda to Bhoma road while another road will be constructed from Sanjeevani Sugar Factory Dharbandora to Khandepar at Rs 200 crore.

Gadkari has informed that the annual budget for development works in Goa has been increased from Rs 2000 crore to Rs 5000 crore by the MoRTH.  He said a state-of-the-art bridge on Zuari river that’s deemed to be a major tourism attraction will not have any toll plaza and the acquired land for this purpose will be used in setting up various tourist amenities. MoRTH will spend another Rs 1200 crore for a seven-kilometer road to Mopa Airport that’s expected to be started soon.

While all these development work is being done taking  the environment into consideration, the ministry has also instructed the vehicle manufacturers to produce flex engines so that huge expenditure being incurred on crude oil imports can be avoided.
