Government approves development of 75 lighthouses for tourism

Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways  has inaugurated a new lighthouse at Valiyazhikkal in Alappuzha district in Kerala. He informed that the Government has approved the development of 75 lighthouses for tourism as part of 75th Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The lighthouse is currently on trial run since 03.06.2021.

Alappuzha MP, Haripad and senior officers were also present on the occasion. In Kerala itself 11 other lighthouses have been earmarked for development. Valiyazhikkal lighthouse is being constructed after obtaining the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) and other statutory clearance. It has a 41.26 metre high pentagonal RCC tower along with allied buildings on an elevator.

The lighthouse will benefit the mariners plying in this region of Kerala, and with this the local fishermen will benefit in the Day mark  and in the night it will ensure their Safe return from the sea. Its location at Valiyazhikkal beach shall be a tourist destination which will endorse the tourism activity in this area by providing scenic view of the sea to the visiting tourists, besides generating job, hence providing economical benefits to the locals.
