Puri launches operational guidelines of the second phase of Swachh Bharat Mission Urban

Housing and Urban Affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri unveiled operational guidelines of Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 along with AMRUT 2.0  following ceremonial launch of SBM-Urban 2.0 and AMRUT  by PM Modi earlier at Lucknow, which received Cabinet approval in October this year.

Designed after multiple rounds of stakeholder consultations, the SBM-U 2.0 and AMRUT 2.0 guidelines aim to ensure that the benefits of the mission reach all sections of the society.

Puri said the second phases of these missions are set to transform the country and that mission AMRUT that was covering only 500 cities will now expand to all the cities.

Kaushal Kishore, the minister of State for  Housing and Urban Affairs, also joined the event virtually and said the SBM has turned out to be a  people’s movement, ushering in a change in their habits and attitudes. He added that provision of 24X7 water supply in cities by AMRUT will be a big relief to Urban population.

SBM-U 2.0 envisions to ensure management of grey and black water that’s used water in all cities, except the cities covered under AMRUT. The Mission also focuses on the utilising of  3Rs — reduce, reuse and recycle and source segregation of solid waste. This also includes remediation of legacy dumpsites aimed at solid waste management in an effective way.

The last seven years have seen the Mission reaching all parts of the country and it has changed the lives of innumerable citizens. The Mission has provided over seventy lakh household community and public toilets. The initiative is providing safe and dignified sanitation solutions for all.
