Govt. of India approves construction of 56,368 New Houses under PMAY (U)

In the recently held 53rd meeting of Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee, the government has approved construction of 56,368 New Houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-U) Mission. The meeting was attended by 11 States/Union Territories.

Speaking on the occasion, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra asked the states and UTs to ensure completion and delivery of houses to all the eligible beneficiaries under PMAY-U within the period of the mission. They were also directed for proper implementation and monitoring of the mission by using the online mechanism.

The Secretary, MoHUA also reviewed the progress of Light House Projects (LHPs), besides Demonstration Housing Projects (DHPs) at the occasion. Foundation stones of these LHPs being constructed across Ranchi, Lucknow, Chennai, Agartala and Rajkot were laid by the Prime Minister in January.  The ministry has already initiated an online enrollment drive to encourage maximum citizen participation with aim to promote these LHP while also creating technical awareness, ideas for solutions and on-site learning.

With the emphasis on accelerating construction, project completion and then delivery of housing under Housing for All programme, MoHUA is committed to provide houses to all the eligible beneficiaries of Urban India by the year 2022 when the country will be celebrating 75 years of independence. Currently in various stages the PMAY-U houses encompass more than 73 lakh houses grounded and 43 lakh houses are already completed.
