Impressive growth in India’s domestic Airline Sector

Passenger growth in India’s domestic airline sector continues to soar, with impressive year-on-year and month-on-month increases. According to recent data, domestic airlines carried 636.07 lakhs passengers between January and May 2023, marking a substantial annual growth rate of 36.10% compared to the same period in 2022. In May 2023 alone, the passenger count reached 132.41 lakh, reflecting a month-on-month growth of 15.24%.

Indigo, Vistara, and Air Asia have also witnessed an increase in their market share during January-May 2023. This growth in passenger numbers highlights the robustness of India’s aviation industry and the concerted efforts of airlines, airports, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in creating a safe and customer-centric ecosystem.

Furthermore, there has been a decline in passenger complaints, with only 556 complaints recorded in May 2023 compared to 746 complaints in May 2019.

Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, commended the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders and emphasized the role of domestic airlines in strengthening the economy and ensuring widespread connectivity. He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the aviation industry’s sustainable growth while prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger satisfaction.

This achievement reflects the industry’s resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, with airlines delivering smooth and hassle-free travel experiences while enhancing their services.
