Indian Railways launches One Stop, Single Window solution for Freight customers

Promoting ease of doing business, Ministry of Railways has launched a dedicated freight portal with aim to simplify the entire process involved in goods transportation and ensure all its operations concerning freight business remain  customer centric and reduce the costs for  logistics providers, besides providing online tracking facility for the suppliers. Touted as a game changer in ensuring ease of doing business with Railways, the new portal shall also bring more transparency and provide professional support to the customers.

Considered as the backbone of the logistic sector in the country, Indian Railways has provided its relentless services in Freight transportation, logistics sector all throughout 2020 during which most of the activities were stopped due to lockdown. Precisely in September to December, the Indian Railways achieved its highest ever loading capacity. Pushing for customer-centric approach Indian Railways had applied a “Freight on Priority” policy and expanded its freight carried from the traditional segments simultaneously with attracting new customers as well to its fold.

The web portal: https://indianrailways.gov.in/#  was launched by Piyush Goyal, Minister for Railways, Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal. Goyal touted Indian Railway as an invisible thread connecting the length and breadth of the country and said that Railway showed its resolve in delivering supplies during the lock down that was the most challenging time and kept national supply chains running. He added that the portal will be a game changer while ensuring ease of doing business. He added that the railway operations have witnessed extraordinary development in the last six years in all spheres under PM Modi’s leadership.

First of its kind dedicated Freight portal will ensure that all operations stay customer centric, reduce the costs for the logistics providers with simultaneously providing online tracking for the suppliers and simplify goods transportation process.

In terms of the benefits extended to the customers, the portal is developed to satisfy various needs of all the customers with bringing more transparency and providing professional support. During the event organised to announce the launch of this portal, business leaders and railway board heads and officials, among others.

The portal includes a wide range of features like the facility for a new customer to register on the portal to place demand for wagons conveniently while the existing customers will access best-in-class services and vital information, etc. It will also guide the customers while they search for suitable terminals with desired facilities and services. The portal also offers commodity pages encompassing Flour & Pulses, Food Grain, Minerals and Ores, Cement & Clinker, Coal, Chemical Manure, Petroleum products, Iron and Steel, Container services and  Automobile, among others.  Tools and Services, Logistics Parners and Professional Support are the other exclusive features available on this portal. In addition, Indian Railways has taken a series of steps to boost Freight loading. Some of these services include setting up of Business Development Units (BDUs) at Zonal Railway and Divisional levels at Railway Board. A number of discounts and concessions are also being provided to make freight movement more attractive.
