India’s Green Hydrogen Mission progresses with new RfS for Green Ammonia production
In a pivotal move to boost the demand for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued a Request for Selection (RfS) for Green Ammonia producers.
This initiative, undertaken through cost-based competitive bidding under Mode 2A of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme, aligns with the objectives of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) led by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE). The competitive bidding process will include e-bidding followed by an e-Reverse Auction, with the Green Ammonia produced being supplied to fertilizer companies.
Previously, MNRE issued Scheme Guidelines for implementing Component II: Incentive for Procurement of Green Ammonia Production (under Mode 2A) of the NGHM’s SIGHT Programme. Under the SIGHT Programme, MNRE has allocated 4.12 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT) per annum of Green Hydrogen production capacity and 1.5 GW per annum of Electrolyzer manufacturing capacity.
Launched on 4th January 2023 with a financial outlay of Rs. 19,744 crore up to FY 2029-30, the National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to propel India towards Aatmanirbhar (self-reliance) through clean energy initiatives.
This mission is pivotal for significant decarbonization, reducing fossil fuel imports, and positioning India as a leader in Green Hydrogen technology and market.
