India’s renewable energy capacity poised to reach 250 GW by March 2026: ICRA
India’s renewable energy capacity is expected to achieve the 250 GW milestone by March 2026, according to ICRA. This marks a significant leap from the 201 GW recorded in September 2024, fueled by an 80 GW project pipeline following enhanced tendering activities in FY2024.
In its latest note, ICRA highlighted that the rooftop solar and commercial & industrial (C&I) segments are set to play pivotal roles in the anticipated capacity addition. However, execution challenges like delays in land acquisition and transmission connectivity remain critical hurdles that could affect the sector’s growth trajectory.
“The renewable energy sector has immense potential, but timely resolution of execution challenges is essential for meeting targets,” said Girishkumar Kadam, Senior Vice President & Co-Group Head – Corporate Ratings at ICRA.
India’s long-term goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 underlines the nation’s commitment to sustainable energy and positions it as a global leader in renewable adoption.
