Industries using unapproved fuels in Delhi-NCR may face stringent action

Air Quality Management Commission reviewed the industries in Delhi-NCR for the progress of switching over their operations to piped natural gas (PNG) supplied from Indraprastha Gas Limited and GAIL. The Commission has identified over 1644 industrial units in 50 industrial areas across Delhi for switching over to PNG. The commission has stressed on the need for all the industries to switch over to PNG even though sizeable number of industries have already started using it. Air pollution in Delhi-NCR is aggravated by the industrial sector. The Government of NCT of Delhi, IGL as well as Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) have been asked to work with the industrial units in close coordination to achieve the target of completion of infrastructure works for switch over by all the identified industrial units in Delhi to PNG by 31st January 2021. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) have been entrusted with the completion of pipeline network, metering and associated infrastructure.
